With Valentines Day right around the corner, America Online recently released its second annual Love@AOL Dating Trends Survey.
The survey details how the dating landscape is changing and how online dating is having huge impact in helping single people meet that someone special.
Nationwide, more and more singles are having success with online dating. According to AOL, nearly 60% of users of singles dating websites have formed long-term relationships through their online connections.
Most singles still consider friends and family the best way to meet someone new, while 16% say they have used online dating, 15% say work and 11% say bars and dance clubs.
If you are a single golfer and you want to meet other single golfers, you can network with family and friends to find a golf partner. You can also visit dating websites that are increasingly catering to individuals with specific interests like golf.
Singles who use online dating say the three biggest advantages are:
Meeting someone with common interests (73%)
Meeting someone who lives nearby (73%)
Safe communication exchanges before meeting (66%)
Singles are using the Internet because it saves them time when looking for a date. AOL also reported they have seen a 24% increase in the number of singles using the online dating to find a last minute date.
The survey of over 4,000 single men and women, outline the changing attitudes towards dating, relationships and online personals. For many singles in the 35-55-age range, their daily lives are busy with work and family commitments. It appears many singles are using online dating as a way of saving time and money.
Online dating will probably never replace the more traditional ways of meeting someone face to face but it certainly appears it can help support singles in their efforts to find other singles with common interests in their local area.
If you are looking for that someone special, a casual friendship or someone to play golf with, online dating can be a safe and convenient way to meet local people who share common interests with you.
